How It Works
XCPETS is a burn-to-play pet game on Bitcoin. Every action is a real burn (a Counterparty destroy) of XCPETS that you sign in your own XCP Wallet. There's no server and no account. The game rebuilds everyone's pets from the public burn history, so every player sees the same result. The Rules page has the exact tags, odds and edge cases.
1. Getting started
- Install the XCP Wallet extension. It runs in desktop Chrome only.
- Get some XCPETS on xcp.fun, plus a little BTC for network fees, into that wallet.
- Press Connect XCP Wallet on Play. Before every burn the game shows the amount, the tag and the Bitcoin fee, then XCP Wallet asks for your final approval. Nothing burns unless you approve both. Disconnect forgets the address on this site.
- Hatch an egg, and feed it the same day.
- Feed it every day. Roll gear once slots open. Battle from Juvenile, breed from Adult.
2. What things cost
| Action | XCPETS |
|---|---|
| Hatch one egg / a dozen (12) / a case (144) | 69 / 690 / 6,900 |
| Feed one meal (Hatchling / Juvenile / Adult / Elder) | 4,140 / 6,900 / 9,660 / 9,200 |
| Raise a pet all the way to Mythic | 69,069 in total |
| Gear roll | 345 |
| Battle: challenge + accept | 690 + 690 |
| Breed (+690 from the partner's owner if it isn't your pet) | 690 |
| Feed the community pet | 69 / 690 / 6,900 |
| Community gear roll | 690 |
| Release a pet, or claim a free or overflow roll | 0.00000001 |
| Discard a pet | free (no burn) |
Every burn is also a Bitcoin transaction with a small BTC network fee.
3. Hatch eggs
Hatch one egg, a dozen or a case. A pack is a single burn, so it's cheaper per egg and you pay one Bitcoin fee instead of many. The Bitcoin block your burn lands in decides each pet's species, rarity (Common, Uncommon, Rare or Legendary) and looks, so nobody can pick or predict them. Rarer species only hatch at rarer tiers; Nakamoto is 1 in 777 eggs and always Legendary. The odds are in the Pet Guide. After the burn confirms, a reveal shows your new pets.
4. Feed and grow to Mythic
- A hatched pet starts as a Hatchling. Bred babies start as an Egg and need a 69 XCPETS meal to hatch.
- Only the pet's owner can feed it, once a day (a day is 144 Bitcoin blocks).
- Each feed costs that stage's meal: 4,140 (Hatchling), 6,900 (Juvenile), 9,660 (Adult), 9,200 (Elder). Burn less and the feed doesn't count; burn more and the extra only feeds the community pet. The Play page fills in the exact amount.
- Care moves the pet through Hatchling → Juvenile → Adult → Elder → Mythic. Fed every day, a pet turns Mythic on its own after 9 meals (about 9 days, 69,069 care).
- Feeding on consecutive days builds a streak, which moves your pet up the WAGMI ranking.
- You can feed several of your pets in one burn, even when their numbers are far apart. Feed all hungry and Feed selected on Play set it up for you.
- Mythic discount: once you own a Mythic, your other pets only need 21,000 care to turn Mythic. A pet already past 21,000 then earns one free overflow roll for every full 1,000 care above 21,000. Claim them from the pet's page (a 0.00000001 burn each).
5. Feed daily or it dies
- From the 3rd day after its last meal, a pet is neglected: it can't battle or breed.
- After 7 full days with no meal, it dies. The clock starts at hatch if a pet was never fed.
- A dead pet moves to the Pet Cemetery. Its gear goes back to the owner's bag.
- Mythic pets never starve.
- The Ranking page lists the pets closest to starving (NGMI).
6. Gear
- Pets wear gear in six slots, which open in this order: Headwear, Grip, Outfits, Drip, Guise, Footwear. A new pet has 1 open; more open as it gets older and stays fed (up to 6). Rarity doesn't change how many slots open, but it does cap how rare the gear it rolls can be.
- A gear roll (345) puts a random piece into one of the pet's open slots. New pieces go to your bag. With Auto-equip new gear on (saved in this browser) a new piece is worn right away, never swapping in a weaker one.
- Lucky drops 🎟️: every stage-up has a 25% chance, and every other meal a 2% chance, to drop one free gear piece, rolled like a paid roll.
- Pieces you already own are a little less likely to roll again.
- Every species except Nakamoto has a ★ signature hat, plus a few other ★ pieces only it can wear (hybrids can wear their parents' ★ pieces, except the hat). Crowns are shared gear any pet can wear.
- Open a pet's Gear to take pieces off or put them on from your bag or another of your pets. Equipping is free and only saved in this browser. Other people see your pet's gear as it was rolled, not your changes.
- A pet in the Pet Cemetery can't wear gear.
7. Battles
- Pets must be Juvenile or older, and not neglected. Each pet gets one battle per day.
- Challenge a pet for 690. Its owner accepts for 690 within 144 blocks.
- Stats, stage (more HP) and worn gear decide the fight, with the block as the dice.
- The loser gives up one random worn piece to the winner and gets a black eye for 72 blocks. ★ signature pieces can never be taken.
8. Breeding
- Two Adult (or older) pets can breed for 690. If the partner belongs to someone else, its owner accepts within 144 blocks for another 690, and the egg goes to you.
- A pet can breed as often as you like, with a one-week wait (1,008 blocks) between breeds.
- Two different species often give a hybrid; the same species gives a bonus trait.
- The baby is an Egg. Feed it 69 XCPETS to hatch it. Its hunger clock starts right away.
9. Release vs Discard
- Discard is free: no burn, no wallet. It only hides the pet in this browser. The pet stays on chain, and you can bring it back any time with Show discarded → Restore. Use Discard on single pets, Discard all Commons or Discard selected.
- Release is a tiny on-chain burn (0.00000001) that gives the pet up for good, for everyone. Its gear goes back to your bag. It can't be undone.
10. The community pet: the Bitcoin Wizard
- Every XCPETS burn by anyone also feeds the community pet, the Bitcoin Wizard.
- It grows 100× slower than a normal pet: it hatched at 69,000 burned and turns Mythic at 6,906,900. Watch it grow on the home page.
- Feed it directly with 69, 690 or 6,900 on Play, or burn 690 for a community gear roll. It always wears the newest piece.
- Before the Wizard, Nakamoto was the community pet until The Return, when the community burned 1,111,111. His story is in Cold Storage.
11. Rankings
The Ranking page has 8 boards. WAGMI → NGMI sorts every living pet by stage, then feed streak, then care. The others rank the most pets, power, rarest collection, top burners, battle wins, Legendary hunters and oldest pets. Below them, NGMI lists the pets closest to starving.
12. Bitcoin fees
Every burn is a Bitcoin transaction, so it costs a small BTC network fee on top of the XCPETS. The game picks the lowest fee rate that should still confirm within about an hour and shows the fee before you approve. A burn takes effect once it's confirmed in a block. Until then it shows under Your burns as pending, and you can tap any burn to see its status and explorer links.
